Liberty Art
Update with original image posted June 26, 2011: I sketched this image in the 1960s at the peak of protests against the Vietnam War. Sadly, the victory we thought had been won for peace and civil liberties has been eclipsed, by increased wars and far worse militarized police brutality today, in supp
ression of free speech and losses of Constitutional liberties that we once believed were guaranteed. See the short video documentary linked HERE. Original image posted May 13, 2011. Today Ron Paul announced he will seek nomination as the Republican candidate for president. Libertarians have diverse, independent views on voting and government, but Ron Paul is appreciated by many as the rarest of the rare — a thoughtful and principled statesman. And his grassroots supporters will make the campaign fun, no matter the outcome. In the spirit of his advice to have fun working for peace and freedom, Libertarian Savvy adds these original images.
The image below was created to honor Bradley Manning. His statements taped by an FBI informant show that Manning considered risking his life by publicly revealing the savage effects of the U.S. military culture of violence. Untried and unconvicted, he has endured nearly 11 months of torture by the military for mere allegation that he released official documents. For further LibertarianSavvy posts on Manning, see the HEROES page and HERE.
I created the 2 images below as part of a series, to depict the unity of peace and freedom, since aggressive force violates both peace and freedom. I felt the solo peace sign became trivialized in popular culture because its conceptual link with liberty was lost. – Deanne Reed Hollinger
A symbol for liberty stands alone; as a universal concept liberty implies peace — just as peace implies liberty.
The image on the left below is dedicated to the antiwar movement that was…and to the guardians of liberty that surrendered. Next to it, the libertarian toolbox holds no ordinary political tools. No force, bribes, bullying, fraud. But it overflows with powerful peaceful tools. Posted 2-2-10.
Image to the right: ”Like mythical Sisyphus, we toil under perpetual, pointless burdens: soldiers are ordered into unjust battles; citizens are robbed and chained by government greed for control.” For the full article that originally accompanied the image to the right, see LibertarianSavvy’s FreeLife Archives: Everyday Heroes, January2, 2011. Despite the failures and even violence and democide that Marxist regimes caused during the last century, many people are still infatuated by idealized interpretations of the ideology. Endless new variations repaint Marxist principles, to superficially blend with whatever is currently in fashion. So the image below shows authoritarian Marx greenwashed to soften his image in the pretense that he was a sensitive humanitarian. Image below: ”I call it the Tapeworm Economy…the media feeds us information about what is good for the tapeworm, but bad for the rest of us.” – Catherine Austin Fitts. The image was first published 11-5-2010, Economics category, “Post Elections, Same Old Same Old”
The wonderful image below was created by Davi Barker, in humorous reply to a cartoon originally by Barry Deutsch.
